Luxurious Lodge Camp Management Couple Vacancy in Kenya

Vacancy: Camp Management Couple

Our client owns a luxurious Lodge within a beautiful acreage of land situated southeast of Kenya.
They are looking for a Camp Management Couple to effectively manage their lodge.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure that the entire operation is run at the highest possible standard
  • Work with all front-of-house departments e.g. food & beverage, housekeeping, office/reception to ensure that service provided to guests achieves the levels of excellency that are required
  • Promote goodwill by being courteous, friendly and helpful to guests, other managements and all fellow employees
  • Ensure that all staff maintain a neat and clean appearance, correct uniform is worn and exemplary behaviour is maintained at all times
  • Meet and greet all guests, giving them appropriate welcome, orientation and safety guidelines
  • Manage the hosting of guest meals, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere for all visitors to the Lodge and inviting other managers, guides and directors to join you and the guests for daily meals as appropriate
  • Manage the activities available for guests-inclusive of helping to plan their itineraries, and ensuring that safety of guests and staff are considered at all times
  • Show an interest and passion for wildlife, conservation and Kenya in general
  • join guests on activities where possible, have intimate knowledge of all activities on offer as well as the local geography, history and ecology
  • Work with the necessary back-of-house departments to ensure that all guest rooms, public areas and game viewing vehicles are maintained to the highest possible standards
  • Ensure that hygiene standards comply with both company and government requirements
  • Strive to maintain and improve cost effective operations at the front and back of house
  • Manage communications between the lodge and the reservations team, to make sure that all client details for arrival/departure/dietary requirements/special requests are noted and understood
  • Deal with visiting agents, Government officials and Dignitaries
  • Evaluate and implement first aid, medical evacuations, and treatment as required by staff or clients while at the Lodge
  • Handle client complaints and communicate all issues of such nature to the head office
  • Act as liaison between Maasai land Preservation Trust and the Lodge, to facilitate guests’ education about the conservation and community programs in place through MPT and encourage MPT project managers to regularly talk to guests either through formal presentations or dining together
  • Encourage guests that are interested in the community and conservation programs to visit the projects and learn more about them
Human Resources
  • Handle staff grievances and ensure all staff comply with company’s code of conduct and company policies and procedures
  • Ensure all staff are managed in compliance with the company’s Human Resource policies and the Kenyan labour law
  • Ensure staff empowerment through comprehensive and continued manpower development, training and localisation programs,
  • Responsible for administering first aid to all staff as well as ensuring staff health and welfare
  • Carry out regular performance appraisals, identifying areas for development and training needs and ensuring that this training is effected
  • Maintain a high standard of morale and motivation through good communication skills, enthusiasm and respect
  • Keep abreast of all changes in company policies
  • Draw up meaningful succession and career plans for staff
  • Make recommendations for salary increases for junior staff, basing these recommendations on objective performance reviews
  • Maintain employee-of-the-month awards and long-service awards
  • Organise sports’ tournaments and events for staff, as well as bi-annual parties for Christmas and end of season
  • Ensure all new staff are given correct paperwork, adequate housing, bedding, crockery, cutlery and uniform
  • Organise duty and leave rosters ensuring that there are sufficient staff to cover all duties, particularly during peak business periods
  • Attend regular meetings with heads of department. Send minutes to head office
  • Ensure a continuous audit and accumulation of data for the production of monthly reports to the head office
  • Work closely with accounts to control costs, adhere to budgets and set goals for the oncoming year
  • Regular communication with head office by sending basic weekly reports to the General Manager
  • Regular communication with reservations, accounts, marketing and purchasing departments
  • Update reservations board, and inform staff of any changes
  • Management of weekly repairs and maintenance, food and beverage orders and supplies to the lodge, via the head office
  • Ensure proper records of petty cash, income from guests and other local use for example. Park fees are maintained
  • Supervise monthly stock takes of all departments, to make sure that operating equipment is sufficient
  • Ensure the company complies will all relevant legislation and regulations in Kenya
  • Marketing of the Lodge through regular social media contributions e.g. blogs, newsletters, image and wildlife sighting database
  • Record all incidents with staff and guests in log book for insurance purposes
Repairs and Maintenance
  • Work closely with head mechanic to ensure that fleet of vehicles is kept in the best possible condition
  • Ensure that accurate records are kept by the mechanics and office administrator
  • Work closely with head of maintenance to ensure that the lodge as a whole compound is operating effectively and is regularly maintained
  • Supervise on-going upkeep of grounds and building e.g. masonry, carpentry, painting, electrical work
Person Specification and Qualifications
  • Self-driven individuals with stamina and a mentality to produce professional standards in a challenging remote environment
  • Social and open minded individuals with a great personality
  • Pay attention to detail and are customer focused
  • Possess good people management skills and are able to lead a strong diverse workforce.
  • Very comfortable with a remote bush location
  • Fluency in Swahili is key
  • Knowledge in maintenance and repairs
  • Proven ability in report writing and general administrative duties
  • A minimum of 5 years working experience in camp management and operations in high end camps in remote locations within East Africa
