Salonist / Assistant Beauty and Hairdressing Instructor Vacancy in Kenya

Our client is a charitable organization operating in rural Rarieda sub-county.
The organization began as a grass-root CBO in 2003 to assist orphaned children and youth with a focus on community empowerment and development currently seeking to recruit a talented, progressive and team-oriented individual to fill the position of Salonist / Assistant Beauty and Hairdressing Instructor (1).
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Train students in specific technical skills area and prepare them for formal examinations/trade test and work environment
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
R1. Salon Duties
T.1 Offer salon services to clients.
T.2 Offer basic Hairdressing and Beauty therapy training to students especially on the practical.
T.3 Ensure proper storage, maintenance and repair of salon tools and equipments.
R3. Training and Economic Mentoring to Students
T.1 Assist in training and mentoring students to be able to provide quality service to clients satisfaction.
T.2 Assist in facilitating the students to meet set deadlines and relevant targets.
T.3 Assist in training the students on how to deal with possible clients so as to enable them have competitive advantage.
T.4 Assist in training the students on how to determine prices of their services to enable them engage in    profitable ventures.
T.5 Assist in training the students on the possible ways of marketing their skills & services.
T.6 Assist in providing counseling to the students, address their disciplinary issues and assist in conflict resolution among them.
T.7 Assist in ensuring that the organizations values and principles as well as rules and regulations are clearly communicated to the students and their caregivers.
T.8 Assist in keeping daily attendance registers for the students.
R5. Internal Administration
T.1 Assist in requesting inputs from the inventory (and procurement) and allocating the same to students for use.
T.2 Assist in locking and opening the salon in the morning and evening in addition to any other relevant time in a bid to ensure better security of inputs & Assets.
T.3 Provide quality and timely delivery of Hairdressing activities reports in their agreed format and deadlines to facilitate follow-up and improvement of the work.
T.4 Actively maintain the internal referral system to ensure beneficiaries are provided with maximum support from the organization’s various expertise.
T.5 Take part in the procurement of salon items whenever called upon.
R6 Other Duties and Responsibilities
T.1 Actively participate in the Saturday Psycho-Social Support, for Orphaned and Vulnerable Children and build the community’s capacity to eventually run the Saturday PSS on their own.
T.2 Perform any other duties and responsibilities which may be assigned by the management from time to time and which are related to the achievement of organization’s mission and vision.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:(The knowledge, skills and abilities may be required through a combination of formal schooling, self-education and prior experience or on-the-job-training).
a) Level of education:
At least a Certificate in the field of Beauty and Hair Dressing from a reputable institution
b) Specialized Training / Professional Qualifications
  • Customer Service
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Sales and Marketing
  • Computer
c) Other competencies:
  • Able to offer the latest hair and beauty trends in the market
  • Able to use the salon to realize a profit from the services and sales offered
  • Must possess good facilitation/training skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to build harmonious relationships with students.
  • Have knowledge working with children in poor conditions.
d) Job experience:
At least two (2) years relevant experience working in a busy salon or in a similar position.
